Are there things you try to practice daily to live a more sustainable lifestyle?

Living a more sustainable lifestyle doesn’t always require big changes; often, it’s the small, consistent choices we make every day that truly matter. In my daily life, I try to be mindful of my habits and the impact they may have on the environment. One simple yet effective practice is carrying a reusable water bottle and a shopping bag with me wherever I go. This small act helps reduce the use of single-use plastics and reminds me to make thoughtful choices.

When it comes to food, I try to plan my meals ahead of time to avoid waste. By storing leftovers properly and using ingredients before they go bad, I’m able to minimize what gets thrown away. If I have food scraps, I try to compost them when possible. Choosing local and seasonal produce is another step I take; it not only supports local farmers but also reduces the environmental cost of transporting goods long distances.

Clothing is another area where I’ve become more intentional. I avoid fast fashion trends and instead focus on buying fewer, higher-quality pieces that last longer. Sometimes, I even explore secondhand shops for unique finds. It feels good knowing that my choices support a more circular and less wasteful system.

At home, I make an effort to save energy by turning off lights when I leave a room, using natural sunlight during the day, and relying on energy-efficient appliances. I’ve also started practicing digital minimalism—like unsubscribing from emails I don’t read—because even digital clutter contributes to unnecessary energy use through data storage.

For me, sustainability is about progress, not perfection. It’s a mindset that encourages awareness and responsibility. These daily actions may seem small, but over time, they become part of a lifestyle rooted in care—for the planet and for future generations.

  1. A serving of clean mountain air to breath, a little physical exertion for the bones and a solid plan or objective each day. Then gather up creative juices to start working on my next book. Plot set: Iceland, Reykjavik’s volcanic trekking grounds. And a retired amateur looking for old Viking treasures in caves!
